Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about Micro Locs.

A full Micro Locs install typically takes 6–10 hours depending on hair density, length, and desired size. Shorter sessions for partial installs or extensions are possible. Plan for a full day; consult with your stylist to schedule appropriately and discuss timing expectations.

When installed and maintained properly, Micro Locs should not damage healthy hair. We use gentle parting and tension-free techniques to minimize stress. Regular moisturizing, proper retwists, and professional upkeep help prevent breakage—avoid overly tight styles and aggressive manipulation.

Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo diluted with water to cleanse the scalp and locs. Massage gently, rinse thoroughly, and squeeze out excess water. Air-dry or use low heat. Moisturize scalp and locs with lightweight oils, and avoid heavy products that cause buildup.

Schedule maintenance every 4–8 weeks depending on hair growth, loc thickness, and desired neatness. Regular retwists keep roots tidy and prevent excessive matting; waiting too long can make maintenance longer and may require partial redo.

It's best to wait 4–6 weeks before chemical coloring to allow locs to settle; consult your stylist for safe dye choices. Styling with accessories is fine immediately, but avoid excessive heat or tensile stress until locs mature and roots strengthen.

With consistent maintenance, Micro Locs can last several years—roots need regular retwists while individual locs can remain for years. A major redo or reinstallation may be recommended every 2–5 years depending on growth, damage, and desired freshness; consult for personalized timeline.
